admit v. /allow v. /permit v. /approve v.

這幾個詞都有“同意，批準，允許”的意思，要注意區(qū)別運用。admit的意思是“同意進入，允許進入”(常與to連用);allow泛指“一般的同意，允許”;permit常用來表示“上下級之間的允許，批準”;approve的主要意思是“批準(條文，協(xié)議等)，贊同”(常與of連用)。

例：This ticket will admit two to the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

這張展覽會開幕式的入場券可允許兩人入場。

His mother didn’t allow him to watch TV before he finished his homework.

不做完作業(yè)，他母親不許他看電視。

This state permits the sale of alcoholic beverages.

本州允許銷售酒精類飲料。

Do you think my father would permit this?

Congress approved the budget.

國會批準了該預(yù)算。
