But wherefore do not you a mightier way
Make war upon this bloody tyrant time,
And fortify yourself in your decay
With means more blessed than my barren rhyme? 4
但為什么你不用更有效的方法
去反抗這嗜血的時間魔王，
或用更幸福的手段來抵抗衰朽，
卻反借重我這不育的詩行? 4
Now stand you on the top of happy hours,
And many maiden gardens yet unset
With virtuous wish would bear your living flowers,
Much liker than your painted counterfeit. 8
如今你置身于桃花運的頂峰之上，
有許多處女園等待著你栽插紅芳，
殷切地盼望著你植下活花朵朵，
花兒比你的畫像更顯出你的真相。 8
So should the lines of life that life repair
Which this time’s pencil or my pupil pen
Neither in inward worth nor outward fair
Can make you live yourself in eyes of men. 12
所以生命只能靠生命線維系，
不論是我的涂鴉還是當代的畫匠
都不能使你活在人們心房，
讓你內(nèi)在和外在的美色昭彰。 12
To give away yourself keeps yourself still,
And you must live,drawn by your own sweet skill.
放棄你自己將反使你自己長在，
想生存就得靠把傳宗妙技發(fā)揚。
注釋：
1 wherefore 為什么
a mightier way 等于in a mightier way,指用比第15首第14行中提到的嫁接的方式更強有力的方式，即用結(jié)婚生子的方式。
2 make war upon 對......開戰(zhàn)。
bloody 沾滿鮮血的。
3 fortify 加強，加固。繼續(xù)使用第2行中的開戰(zhàn)意象。
4 more blessed than my barren rhyme 以blessed為中心詞的形容詞短語，修飾前面的means。
blessed 快樂的，受保佑的，讀作兩個音節(jié)。
barren 貧瘠的。
rhyme 詩歌。
5 stand on the top of happy hours 如日中天，指財富，外貌，精力等都處于鼎盛狀態(tài)。

the lines of life 指詩人年輕朋友的后代，或從詩人的年輕朋友起，由他的子子孫孫構成的生命延續(xù)的脈絡線條。
