表示“祝賀”，通常用于 congratulate sb on [upon] sth, 其意為“因為某事而祝賀某人”(注意用介詞on/upon)。如：

I congratulate you on your success. 我祝賀你的成功。

He congratulated us on getting married. 他祝賀我們結婚大喜。

They congratulated her on her election. 他們祝賀她當選。

I congratulated Maria on passing the exam. 瑪麗亞考試通過了我向她祝賀。

I had hoped to send him a telegram to congratulate him on his marriage but I didn’t manage it. 我本想在他結婚的時候給他打個電報表示祝賀，但是我沒有辦到。

注：在美國英語中有時也用for：

He congratulated the team on / for having won all their games. 運動隊在所有參賽項目上獲勝，他向全隊表示祝賀。

有時接反身代詞作賓語。如：

You can congratulate yourself on having done a good job. 你的工作干得出色，你應該感到自豪。

注意，英語一般不說：I congrtulate your success.
