這一對片語也不是同義語。

In favour of的意思有三個：“贊成”、“有利于”和“讓位”。例：

Are you in favour of this new project?

你是否贊成這個新計劃?

The court ruled in favour of the defendant.(也可寫在in the defendant’s favour)

法庭的裁決對被告有利/判被告勝訴。

The Prime Minister resigned in favour of a better candidate.

首相辭職以讓位給更合適的人選。

In favour with的意思是“受到…寵愛”或“得到…好評(或重視)”。例：

The Chief Executive is now in favour with the people.

現在行政首長受到市民的愛戴。

Our plan is not in favour with the authority.

蘭局并不重視我們的方案。

這里的相反詞為 out of favour.例：The sycophant is out of favour with his boss.

由上列數例可看出，in favour of是表示主動的涵義，即贊成某事或支持某人，對什么有利或讓位給誰;in favour with則表示被動的涵義，即受到或得到某人的好評或重視。
