China’s top legislator Wu Bangguo pledged Thursday the National People’s Congress (NPC)， the top legislature, would step up its oversight work through special inquiries into issues related to people’s well-being this year。

全國人大常委會委員長吳邦國本周四指出，今年，全國人大將通過專業(yè)詢問加強對保障改善民生工作的監(jiān)督。

Special inquiry就是“專題詢問”，是人大監(jiān)督的legal means(法定形式)之一，指人大常委會選擇代表普遍關(guān)心的問題聽取國務(wù)院有關(guān)部門專題匯報，請國務(wù)院有關(guān)部門主要負責同志到會聽取意見、回答詢問、答復(fù)問題。專題詢問是對具體操作部門的一種監(jiān)督形式。

這里的oversight work就是“監(jiān)督工作”，是人大常委會的主要工作之一。Oversight有“疏忽”的意思，還有“監(jiān)督”的意思，比如，a momentary oversight(一時疏忽)，administrative oversight(行政監(jiān)督)等。
