發音要領：
這一對元音的關鍵是要把嘴唇攏小收圓，同時在發音的時候又要防止雙唇阻礙氣流泄出，也就是要防止加進一個輔音[w]。還需要注意的是[u:] 和 [u]不僅僅存在長短的差別，更重要的還有音調高低的差別，[u:]音調低，音程長，[u]音調高，音程短。
[u:]：舌身后縮，舌后部盡量向軟腭抬起，舌尖離開下齒;雙唇收圓并用力向前突出;長音，和英音[u:]音值相同。
容易出現的錯誤：在雙唇之間發生摩擦，讀作[wu], 或如漢語的“烏”一樣。
[u]：舌身后縮，舌后部向軟腭抬起，但舌位比[u:]稍低，是[u:]的對應短音;雙唇收圓并稍稍向前突出，開口程度比[u:]略大;短音，和英音[u]相似
容易出現的錯誤：在單詞中把[u]讀得像漢語“哥”中的韻母一樣，如“good”讀作“哥的”。要注意到這個音是圓唇音。
