暑假已至，怎么能不播《西游記》?說起《西游記》，有人可謂是能倒背如流了，可是有關《西游記》的英文表達您了解嗎?小編帶您用英文解讀《西游記》中的各路神妖。

《西游記》是中國四大古典小說(Four Great Classical Novels)之一，通常翻譯為Journey to the West，也翻譯為The Journey to the West、Adventures of the Monkey God、Monkey: A Folk Novel of China、The Adventures of Monkey等。在西方國家，有時候它就翻譯為Monkey。故事一共一百章(chapter)，圍繞唐朝和尚(Buddhist monk)玄奘(Xuanzang)去印度朝圣(pilgrimage)獲取佛學經典(Buddhist scriptures)的神奇經歷(mythologized legends)展開，當然這是一種對歷史事件的虛構描述(fictionalized account)。在取經路上，他們遇到了各種鬼怪(monsters)和困難(calamity)，包括火焰山(flaming mountain)、蜘蛛精洞(lair of spider-spirits)、女兒國(kingdom ruled by women)等稀奇古怪的場面(scenario)。他們必須經歷81難(81 disasters)來取得真經。

[唐僧]

唐僧(Tang Priest)在英語(精品課)中也常翻譯為Tripitaka，即三藏，字面意思是Three Baskets of Buddhist Teaching。據說吃了他的肉可以長生不老(to obtain immortality by eating Xuanzang’s flesh)。

[孫悟空]

孫悟空(Sun Wukong)是從石頭里誕生的猴子，會72變(72 polymorphic transformations)， 長生不死(immortality)，自封為"齊天大圣"(Great Sage Equal to Heaven)，曾經位列天官(celestial bureaucracy)，后反叛(rebel)天庭，被佛用咒語(talisman)困于五行山(Five Elements Mountain)下五百年。他原來叫美猴王(Handsome Monkey King)，住在花果山(Mountain of Flowers and Fruits)水簾洞(Cave of Water Curtains);悟空是菩提祖師(Patriarch Bodhi)起的法號，意思是Awakening to Emptiness。他的武器是如意金箍棒(will-following golden-banded staff)。他還在八卦爐(eight-trigram brazier)練就了火眼金睛(fiery golden eyes)，翻筋斗云(cloud somersault)的本領(talents)。他用這些本領戰勝妖魔(demons)。唐僧用一個金箍(gold band)通過念咒(chant magic words)，即緊箍咒(tightening-crown spell)可以控制他。

[豬八戒]

豬八戒(Zhu Bajie)字面意思是Eight-precepts Pig或Eight-prohibitions，通常翻譯為Pigsy、Monk Pig或Pig，原為天蓬元帥(Marshal Tian Peng)，即天庭水軍將官(commander of Heavenly Naval Forces)，由于調戲(flirt with)嫦娥(Princess of the Moon Chang’e)被貶下(banish)人間(mortal realm)，特點是貪吃好色(insatiable appetites for food and sex)。他也叫豬悟能(Pig Awakened to Power)，是半人半豬(half human half pig)的怪物，曾經在高老莊(Gao Village)變成普通人娶親。他的武器是九齒釘耙(nine-tooth iron rake)。

[沙悟凈]

沙悟凈(Sha Wujing)是河怪(river ogre)，字面意思是Sand Awakened to Purity，他也叫沙和尚(Friar Sand)，因為他住在流沙河(Flowing Sand River)。他曾是天庭的卷簾大將(Great General for Folding the Curtain)，只因在蟠桃宴(Peach Banquet)上打破了王母娘娘(Heavenly Queen Mother)的水晶杯(crystal goblet)被貶下凡。他的武器是月牙鏟(Crescent-Moon Shovel)。

[白龍馬]

白龍馬(white horse)原來是西海龍王(Dragon King of the Western Sea)敖閏殿下的三太子(the third son of Ao Run)。龍王三太子縱火燒了殿上玉帝賜的明珠(bright pearls)，觸犯天條，犯下死罪，幸虧大慈大悲的觀世音菩薩出面，才幸免于難，被貶到蛇盤山(Coiled Snake Mountain)等待唐僧西天取經。無奈他不識唐僧師徒，誤食唐僧坐騎白馬，后來被觀世音菩薩點化，鋸角退鱗，變化成白龍馬，皈依佛門，取經路上供唐僧坐騎，任勞任怨，歷盡艱辛，終于修成正果，取經歸來，被如來佛祖升為八部天龍馬。
