A group of teachers posed the question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds: what is love?

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love." ...Rebecca - age 8.

8歲的Rebecca：“我奶奶關節炎犯了的時候，她都不能彎下去涂腳趾甲油。所以每次到這個時候爺爺就為她涂，甚至是在他手也犯關節炎的時候也不例外。這就是愛。”

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You know that your name is safe in their mouth." ...Billy - age 4

4歲的Billy：“當一個人愛你的時候，他們叫你名字的方式是不同的。你知道你的名字從他嘴里說出來感覺棒極了。”

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other." ...Karl - age 5

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French Fries without making them give you any of theirs." ...Chrissy - age 6

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK." ...Danny - age 7

7歲的Danny：“愛就是當媽媽為爸爸煮了咖啡，遞給他之前自己先喝一小口，看看是不是口味不錯。”

"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss." ...Emily - age 8

8歲的Emily：“愛就是你整天都在親吻。然后就算你們厭倦了親吻，但是仍舊想在一起，而且你們會聊很多。我媽媽和爸爸就是這樣。他們親吻的時候好惡心哦。”

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate." ...Nikka - age 6

6歲的Nikka：“如果你想學會更好地愛，你就要從那些你討厭的小朋友開始。”

"There are two kinds of love. Our love and God’s love. But God makes both kinds of them." ...Jenny - age 8

8歲的Jenny：“有兩種愛。我們的愛和上帝的愛。但是兩種愛都是上帝創造的。”

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday."...Noelle - age 7

7歲的Noelle：“愛就是當你告訴一個男孩兒你喜歡他的那件T恤，然后他就每天穿著它。”

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well." ...Tommy - age 6

6歲的Tommy：“愛就是一個老奶奶和一個老爺爺在彼此特別了解之后還是好朋友。”

"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore." ...Cindy - age 8

8歲的Cindy：“在我的鋼琴獨奏會上，我站在臺上，特別害怕。我看到所有的人都在看著我，這時候我爸爸在朝我揮手，對我微笑。他是唯一一個這么做的人。我就不再害怕了。”

"My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night." ...Clare - age 6

"Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken." ...Elaine - age 5

5歲的Elaine：“愛就是媽媽給了爸爸最好的那塊雞肉。”

"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford." ...Chris - age 7

7歲的Chris：“愛就是當媽媽看到渾身臭汗的爸爸時，仍舊說他比Robert Redford帥得多。”

"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day." ...Mary Ann - age 4

4歲的Mary Ann：“愛就是你一整天讓小狗狗孤零零之后，他還湊上來舔你的臉。”

"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones." ...Lauren - age 4

4歲的Lauren：“我知道姐姐是愛我的，因為她把所有的舊衣服都給了我，然后她出去買了新的。”……

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." ...Karen - age 7

7歲的Karen：“當你愛上一個人的時候，你的眼睛會眨來眨去的，里面會冒出許多的小星星。”

"You really shouldn’t say ’I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget." ...Jessica - age 8

8歲的Jessica：“除非你是真心實意的，否則你不要輕易說‘我愛你’喔。但是如果你真的愛對方，那就經常說出來，人們通常會忘記這一點。”

And the final one: Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest that he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The winner was a 4-year-old child whose next door neighbour was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap and just sat there.

最后一個：作家兼講師Leo Buscaglia說起了一次做比賽評委的經歷。比賽是為了找到最有同情心的孩子，冠軍是一個4歲的小朋友，他的鄰居是一個老人家，最近剛剛失去他的愛人。看到老爺爺在哭，小男孩兒就會走進他的院子里，爬到他的膝蓋上坐著。

When his Mother asked him what he had said to the neighbour, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."

當小男孩兒的媽媽問他對鄰居說了什么的時候，小男孩說，“我什么也沒說，我就是幫他一起哭。”
